Vancouver Getaway Weekend
Sarah and I had planned a getaway - and it so happened to land on Mother's Day weekend. The original plans were to take in a romantic weekend package at Harrisons Hot Springs, which we've enjoyed from past visits.
Then we had a brainchild moment. My sis is backpacking Europe and has her Yaletown apartment available for us to crash. So we opted for that instead.
It's fun playing "tourist" in your own hometown. I betcha a huge percentage of residents in Vancouver prefer to "go away" somewhere, instead of touring Vancouver - even though it has been rated one of the Top 10 desirable places to live in the world. Here's some of the casual fun things we did:
- We jumped on the AquaBus, a water taxi, and our friendly "driver" took this picture of us.

Sarah and I on the AquaBus water taxi
- traveling from Yaletown to Granville Island.
- Sarah hates seafood. I love it. So we had it MY WAY, and I CHOSE to dine at a restaurant that Sarah wanted to go to - which meant no seafood
We dined at The Keg Steakhouse Bar. The funny thing is we visited 2 other restaurants before that offered ONLY seafood - the Sandbar and Bridges.
- We split our sides laughing at The Imprentice, an Improv spoof on "The Apprentice" - at the Vancouver TheatreSports League on Granville Island.
- Sarah and I enjoyed tea and desert at the Brix Restaurant and Wine Bar - a chic romantic dining spot, that not only showcased international cuisine, but also the local upscale crowd - or Yuppies, as Sarah and I call them.
That was a short, yet fun and relaxing time in good 'ol Vancouver. I was ready to be Daddy again, and was thrilled to have 2 excited children jump all over us when we returned home.
